Julian Cary Ammons Sr., 97, of Colonial Heights, passed away on Sunday, October 16, 2016 at the Golden Living Center in Petersburg. Born in Warren, North Carolina, he was the son of the late John and Winifred Stsing Ammons and the widower of Mamie Browder Ammons. He was also preceded in death by a son Julian C. Ammons Jr. Mr. Ammons was the former Superintendent at Blandford Cemetery in Petersburg and was retired from the Columbia Gas Company. He was a member of the First Christian Church in Petersburg, a U.S. Army Veteran serving in the European Theater during WW II, and a life member of VFW Post 2239, the Colonial Heights Optimist Club and the Community Hunt Club in Dinwiddie. Mr. Ammons is survived by a son, Terry L. Ammons and his wife, Ann of Petersburg and a grandson, Malcolm K. Ammons also of Petersburg. A funeral service will be held at 1:30 p.m. on Friday October 21, 2016 in the Colonial Heights Chapel of the E. Alvin Small Funeral Home and Crematory 2033 Boulevard with the Reverend Marvin Coleman officiating. Burial to follow in Sunset Memorial Park, Chester. The family will receive friends Thursday evening October 20, 2016 from 7- 8:30 p.m. at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be made to the Crater Community Hospice 3916 S.
