Julius "Jack" DeBoer of N. Dinwiddie died on Saturday, September 28, 2013 of complications from a fall at his home four months ago. He was born on June 7, 1920 in Muskegon, Michigan to Gerrit and Sarah Brace DeBoer. He was preceded in death by his son-in-law, Larry Corrigan. Jack was a veteran of World War II, serving 4 years, 26 months of which were in England and France. He attained the rank of Captain, graduating from Officer Candidate School Class # 24. After working as a salesman for Clarke Floor Machines, out of Washington, D.C., he and his Father built and operated Community Paint & Hardware on Pickwick Avenue in Colonial Heights, where he was active in the city's affairs, serving as President of the Lion's Club and the Colonial Heights Chamber of Commerce. When Brickwood Golf Course opened only a mile from his home, Jack became an avid golfer. His friends from Colonial Heights would blow their horns as they passed his house, and Jack would jump out of bed, pull on his clothes, and join them in a round before work. He was forever proud of his trip to Scotland with his cronies, where they played on the famous courses. After retirement, besides golf, Jack served on the Dinwiddie County Board of Social Services for many years, and on the Board of the Dinwiddie County Water Authority for 20 years. He is survived by his wife of 67 years, Charlotte "Penny" Munson DeBoer; his sons, Jay W.
