Katherine Kiloczki Headrick Dickens, Katy, 93, passed away on Monday, July 15, 2024, at Bon Secours Southside Regional Medical Center. She was the daughter of the late John and Stella Kiloczki and was preceded in death by four of her sisters, Mary Piekaz, Stella Newcomb, Annie Mayo, and Sophie Babineau. Katy grew up in Franklin, New Hampshire, but spent most of her adult life in Prince George, Virginia. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Walter Marvin Dickens.
Katy is survived by her four children, Sue Bailey (Jimmy), Thomas “Tink” Headrick (Cathy), Michelle “Mickey” Fried (George), and Linda Atkinson; and two sisters, Helen Bilodeau and Lillian Kurowski. She is “Granny Dickens” to eight grandchildren: Mike, Brad, Heath, Christopher, Lauren, Becky, Krissy, and Eric; 14 great-grandchildren and 7 great-great-grandchildren.
Katy was a veteran of the Women Army Corp and served in the Korean War as a surgical assistant in Tokyo, Japan. After moving to Virginia, she worked at Kenner Army Hospital until her retirement. After retiring, she worked with her daughter at The Green Thumb Nursery growing vegetable and flower plants and helping in the Custard Kitchen at Sebera’s Store.
Katy loved her family above all and their visits. She also enjoyed the flower and tomato plants on the porch, and feeding and watching birds, deer and turkeys in the backyard.
There will be a private family graveside service held at a later date. Funeral arrangements are being handled by the Crater Road Chapel of E. Alvin Small Funeral Homes and Crematory, 3935 S. Crater Road, Petersburg, VA 23805. Online condolences may be registered at www.ealvinsmall.com.
