Kathryn Jennings Varnell, 89, of Colonial Heights, passed away on Tuesday, November 4, 2014. Born in Powhatan County, she was the daughter of the late Fitzhugh and Eunice Copeland Jennings, and the widow of John William Varnell Jr. Mrs. Varnell was a longtime member of Highland United Methodist Church where she taught Sunday school for over 50 years. Mrs. Varnell was a retired Bookkeeper with First Virginia Bank. She is survived by her son, Ronald K. Varnell; her daughter, Debra V. Carper and husband, Bryan L. of Colonial Heights; family friend, M. Kathy Huedepohl of Norfolk; three grandchildren, Darlene Gail Symborski, Sarah Elizabeth Carper and Hannah Rachel Carper; two great-grandchildren, Caitlyn Symborski and Daniel Symborski; numerous nieces and nephews. A Funeral Service will be held at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, November 8, 2014 at Highland United Methodist Church 125 E. Westover Avenue, Colonial Heights, Virginia 23834 with the Reverend Dr. Dorothy O'Quinn officiating. Burial will follow in Southlawn Memorial Park, Prince George. The family will receive friends from 7 to 8:30 p.m. Friday, November 7, 2014 at the Colonial Heights Chapel of the E. Alvin Small Funeral Homes & Crematory, 2033 Boulevard.
