Kenneth (Kenny) William Degan, 63, of Colonial Heights, left this Earth to his new home in Heaven. He departed on August 23, 2009 after his courageous fight with cancer. Kenny was preceded in his journey by his parents, Robert E. and Audrey Pottage Degan. A dedicated family man with his family being his pride and joy. He was much loved by his family and many friends and will be greatly missed. Kenny served in the U.S. Navy on the U.S.S. Cunningham DD752; following an honorary discharge from the Navy, he worked and retired from the Union IBEW of Richmond. After retirement, Kenny joined the Chesterfield School system working as a Facility Coordinator at Matoaca Elementary School, retiring from his second career on August 1, 2009. Kenny is survived by his wife of 43 years, Linda; a son, R. Gregory Degan and wife, Michelle; two grandchildren, Madylin and Gabe Degan; a brother, Mark E. P. Degan and wife, Sandy; along with Clarence Gouyer III and his three children. Funeral services will be held 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, August 26, 2009 at Mount Pleasant Baptist Church, 3110 Greenwood Avenue, Colonial Heights, Virginia 23834 with the Reverend Dr. Andrew Brockelman, Associate Senior Pastor officiating. The family will receive friends from 10-11:00 a.m. at the church prior to the service and the American Legion Post 284 Ceremony. Military Honors will be conducted at Blandford Cemetery, Petersburg. Following the interment, friends are welcome to meet with the family in the MPBC's upstairs meeting room. In lieu of flowers, the family request donations be made to Cancer Research, Massey Cancer, MCV, Richmond, Virginia. Arrangements by the Colonial Heights Chapel of the E.
