Kenneth Spain

Kenneth G. "Sonny" Spain, 81, of Colonial Heights, passed away on Friday, September 2, 2011 at Southside Regional Medical Center. Born in Dinwiddie County, he was the son of the late Waverly G. and Essie Poarch Spain. Mr. Spain was a member of Faith Baptist Church in Colonial Heights, a veteran with the United States Marine Corps, and taught Automotive Collision at Rowanty Vocational-Technical Center for 21 years. He is survived by his wife of 56 years, Shelby Lee Butler Spain; two sons, Kenneth L. Spain and wife, Brenda Carpenter Spain, and Christopher D. Spain and wife, Ann A. Spain all of Colonial Heights; four step-grandchildren; six step-great-grandchildren; a sister, Cecil S. Estep; numerous nieces and nephews; and a host of friends. A visitation will be held from 7 to 8:30 p.m. Tuesday, September 6, 2011 in the Colonial Heights Chapel of the E. Alvin Small Funeral Homes & Crematory, 2033 Boulevard.
