Laura E. Dooley

March 8, 1948 — July 31, 2024

Disputanta

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Laura Dooley, at the age of 76. She passed away peacefully after a long battle with stage 4 lung cancer surrounded by her beloved family and her devoted Dachshund “BoBo” on Wednesday, July 31, 2024, at her home in Prince George County. Born on March 8, 1948, she was the daughter of the late Daisy Wilson Kelly and Garland Moss. Her brother, Marvin “Moe” Hollie preceded her in death.

She is survived by her loving husband of 57 years Bobby Dooley, daughter, Karen Stoupa (Matt), grandson, Zachary Stoupa (Hannah), their son, Brantley who was the apple of his great – memaw’s eye, grandson, Trevor Stoupa and granddaughter, Karsen Stoupa (BF Amelio Moran). Siblings James E. Hollie, Bevlee Kegan, (affectionately called Sissy by Laura, and Laura was Sister Belle to Bevlee) (Burgess), Lindsey Moss and Merry Jane Wasmer (Randy), many nieces, nephews, and extended family members. Son, Timmy Dooley (4 children, 2 grandchildren).

Laura was a true friend and touched the lives of all who knew her, she was strong in her faith that her life was in the hands of the Lord. She was a loving and giving wife, mother, memaw, and great memaw. She loved shopping trips and lunches with her girls. She enjoyed weekly family dinners especially at “the barn” and spending time with her loved ones. She especially loved the conversations she and her great-grandson had together. She enjoyed the Tuesday card-playing days and cherished the time spent with her friends. She also loved having the Teas that her special friends enjoyed; Pat Rose, Pat Donnelly, Nita, Cheryl, Joanne, Marsha, Renie, Dee, Cathy, Lesta, Bobby, Jimmy, and Sandra. She was an extraordinary friend and advocate with “a heart as big as the outdoors”. Her memory will be cherished by all who knew her, and while our hearts mourn the loss, we take comfort in knowing she is no longer suffering.

Laura was a member of the Fraternal Order of Eagles #882 and served as Madam President for two years, she held many other offices in the auxiliary. She was also a member of The American Legion Post #2 in Petersburg and held several offices at the post. She worked at Walmart in Petersburg until her retirement.
