Lawrence "Larry" R. "Sleepy" Belcher, Sr., 83, of South Chesterfield, VA passed away on Sunday, June 5, 2016 at Lucy Corr Village. Born in Ettrick, VA he was the son of the late Ralph R. Sr. and Sarah Pond Belcher; and was also preceded in death by three brothers, John E. Belcher, Donald M. Belcher and Ralph R. Belcher, Jr. Mr. Belcher retired as Vice President of Sales from Roper Brothers Lumber Company in Petersburg, and was a United States Army veteran having served during the Korean Conflict. Larry served on the Chesterfield County Planning Commission for over 20 years, was the co-owner and operator of G&E Construction Co. Inc., a member and past Commander of the American Legion Post #136, a member and past President of the Colonial Heights Lions Club and a member of the Ettrick Fellowship Club. Mr. Belcher started the Ettrick Business Council, served as a deacon at Ettrick Baptist Church, was a member of Ettrick United Methodist Church and was a trustee for the Children's Baptist Home. Sleepy is survived by his loving wife of 61 years, Lynn G. Belcher; a daughter, Robin B. Liesfeld and husband, Lawrence; two sons, Lawrence R. Belcher, Jr. and wife, Susan and Stephen K. Belcher; a daughter-in-law, Lenieve C. Belcher; six grandchildren, Ren, Cameron, Jake, Kyndal, Hank and Christian; two brothers, Robert M. Belcher and wife, Sue and Gerald Belcher and wife, Pat; three sisters, Joyce A. Belcher, Jean Belcher and Shirley Nislar and husband, Lou; a sister-in-law, Mary D. Belcher; and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. A funeral service will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Friday, June 10, 2016 at the Colonial Heights Chapel of E. Alvin Small Funeral Homes and Crematory, 2033 Boulevard, Colonial Heights, VA 23834 with the Reverend Bob Lamb and the Reverend Scott Price, officiating. Entombment will follow in Sunset Memorial Park, Chester, VA. The family will receive friends from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. on Thursday, June 9, 2016 at the funeral home. The family would like to thank the staff of Lucy Corr Village, Clover Hill Wing for their love, concern and care shown towards Sleepy.
