Leland A. Cobb, 87, passed away in his sleep at home on Monday, August 12, 2013 in Hopewell, Virginia. He was born December 4, 1925 to Lucion and Esther (Lanier) Cobb in Metter, Georgia. Leland served in the U.S. Army infantry in Germany during World War II. Following his military service, he settled in Hopewell where, on 6 April 1958, he married Trixie Mitchell. By profession, Leland was a barber, and for years operated the City Hall Barber shop on Main Street along with partner, Jimmy Hardin. He was a member of DuPont Masonic Lodge #289, The ACCA Temple Shrine, The Hopewell Shrine Club, The VFW, and the American Legion. For recreation, Leland enjoyed planting and harvesting his vegetable garden. He was also a skilled carpenter.Survivors include his brother, Rupert D. Cobb of San Antonio, Florida,nieces Nancy Stewart of Madeira Beach, FL, and Lisa Crowder of Hopewell, and nephews Mark Mitchell and Philip Mitchell of Hopewell, Virginia, and Bernie Cobb of Atlanta Georgia. He was preceded in death by his wife, Trixie Mitchell, and his parents. Arrangements are being handled by the E. Alvin Small Funeral Home in Colonial Heights, Virginia.A graveside gathering will be held on Wednesday, August 14th, at 11:30 a.m. at the Sunset Memorial Park in Chester, VA.
