Leona Watts Perkins of Petersburg, widow of Glenn Fairfax Perkins, died peacefully Monday, February 13, 2012. She was born to Raymond Haywood Watts and Effie Lena Hewett Watts in Tabor City, North Carolina on April 8, 1920. She was a member of West End Baptist Church. She was predeceased by her son, George Fairfax Perkins on September 6, 2011. In addition she was predeceased by three sisters, Christine Barco, Bernice Stray and Jean Hudson; two brothers, Joe T. Watts and Robert H. Watts; her nephew, Terry Watts; and niece Gale Watts. She is survived by her son, Jerry Lee Perkins of Deland, Florida, Janice Pond Perkins, the wife of her late son George, of Gordonsville, Virginia; grandchildren, Whitney Lynn Perkins of Charlottesville, Virginia, Paul Fairfax Perkins of Gordonsville, Christopher Fairfax Perkins and Brooks Hamilton Perkins of Deland, Florida; great grandchildren, Britney Nicole Huff, Shelby Glynn Huff and William Clayton Huff of Charlottesville, Grant Fairfax and Sydney Anne Perkins of Gordonsville and Kaylee, Garrett and Mason Perkins of Deland, Florida. Also surviving are two brothers-in-law, Ernest Durwood Barco and his daughter, Donna of Martinsville, Virginia and Ed Stray of Fayetteville, North Carolina; many other nieces, nephews and their children. Leona was a lady of many talents, including a championship golfer. She was a good steward of everything God entrusted to her in this life and a great friend to all that knew her. A celebration of her life will be conducted at 11:00 a.m. Monday, February 20, 2012 in the Colonial Heights Chapel of the E. Alvin Small Funeral Homes and Crematory, 2033 Boulevard with the Reverend Dr. John Tadlock officiating, followed by burial at Southlawn Memorial Park, Prince George. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the funeral home.
