Leonard Brown Iii

Leonard Epes Brown III, 56, of Colonial Heights, Virginia, passed away on Thursday, April 14, 2022, at his home surrounded by family and friends. He was born on March 28, 1966, in Virginia to Leonard Epes Brown, Jr. and Patricia Collins Merritt. Leonard was preceded in death by his fraternal grandparents, Maude W. and Leonard E. Brown, Sr.; maternal grandparents, Clarence Charles and Leila McDanials Collins; and great aunt, Flossie M. Deadmon. Leonard was a pressman operator for over 30 years. His passion was basketball and he played on adult leagues with friends and occasionally with his daughter and grandchildren. Leonard is survived by his daughter, Christine Nicole Brown; grandchildren, Mackenzie Nicole, Hannah Marie, and Layla Starr; father, Leonard Epes Brown, Jr. (Glenda F.); mother, Patricia Collins Merritt (Frank); sister, Kimberly Brown Kinzie (James S.); stepsister, Stephany Blair; niece, Jennifer Davis; nephew, Michael Gibbs; several great nieces and nephews; one great-great nephew; and longtime girlfriend, Joy Elaine Greise Hawes. A celebration of life will be held at a later date. Funeral arrangements are being handled by the Colonial Heights chapel of E. Alvin Small Funeral Homes and Crematory, 2033 Boulevard, Colonial Heights, Virginia 23834.
