Leonard Eugene Daniel 89, of Chester, passed away Friday, July 5, 2024, at St. Francis Medical Center. Gene was married to Louise Jefferson Daniel for over 59 years. Their children are John Milton & Allison S. Daniel; and Elizabeth (D.) & Ronnie Faulkner. He was “Poppa” to Joshua, Katie & Julianna Daniel and Rebecca & Danny Faulkner. A graduate of E. C. Glass High School in Lynchburg, Gene was an accomplished tenor singer, having studied for several years with Florence Vickland in Lynchburg. He participated in the Little Theatre in Lynchburg and choirs of several churches there. He continued his education at Richard Bland College, where he was a member of the Honor Court. Gene completed a bachelor’s degree at Virginia State University and earned the master’s degree in public administration at Virginia Commonwealth University in 1994. Gene spent much of his working career at VCU, serving as the University’s Payroll Director. He sang with the Petersburg Festival Chorus for several years and sang in choirs of local churches, most recently at the Colonial Heights Presbyterian Church. He served in his churches on committees and as Deacon and Elder. He was an avid golfer for many years, playing with the Colonial Heights Senior Men’s Golf League in retirement. A memorial service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, July 13, 2024, at Colonial Heights Presbyterian Church 211 Lynchburg Avenue Colonial Heights, Virginia 23834, with the Rev. Ken Goodrich officiating. The family will receive friends during the hour prior to the service from 10:00 am to 11:00 a.m. Saturday, at the church. A luncheon for friends and family will follow the service. Funeral arrangements are being handled by the Colonial Heights Chapel of E.
