L.M. Gravitte Sr.

June 1, 1930 — June 18, 2009

L.M. Gravitte Sr., 79, of Chester, went to be with the Lord after a long battle with cancer, on Thursday, June 18, 2009. He was the son of the late Edward and Adel Chandler Gravitte and was preceded in death by two brothers, Eugene and Shelton Gravitte, and a brother-in-law, Randolph I. Carraway. Mr. Gravitte was a member of Ivey Memorial United Methodist Church. He was the founder of Gravitte's Cabinet Shop in 1948, Meredith will be dearly missed by family and friends. He is survived by his loving wife of 55 years, Lucille C. Gravitte; sons, L.M. "Mickie" Gravitte Jr. and fiancee, Lynn of Chesterfield, and Richard E. "Ricky" Gravitte and wife, Lisa of Chester; two grandchildren, James Ryan Gravitte and Elizabeth Madison Gravitte; a sister, Florence G. Bennett and husband, Donald H. of Dale City; and one brother-in-law, Clyde F. Carraway of Dinwiddie. A funeral service will be held 2:00 p.m. Monday, June 22, 2009 in the Colonial Heights Chapel of E. Alvin Small Funeral Homes & Crematory, 2033 Boulevard with the Reverend Tom Brown and the Reverend Tommy Herndon officiating. Interment Southlawn Memorial Park, Prince George. The family will receive friends from 2 to 3:30 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home.
