Lottie Gray Clarke

November 28, 1931 — May 25, 2023

Colonial Heights

Lottie Gray Clarke, aged 91, peacefully passed away in her sleep at home on Thursday, May 25, 2023. She was born on November 28, 1931, in Fayetteville, North Carolina, to her loving parents, Robert Louis Fisher and Winnie Fisher.

Lottie exemplified kindness and generosity, finding joy in the company of her beloved family. She loved entertaining, regularly opening her home for cookouts with family and friends. Shopping was one of her favorite pastimes, and she found fulfillment as an active member of the Women of Moose Chapter 1180 in Hopewell, Virginia, as well as the American Legion Auxiliary Post 284 in Colonial Heights, Virginia.

Lottie was preceded in death by her three adoring husbands: Edgar A. “E.A.” Clarke (d. 2013), William Everett Pond (d. 2001), and Edwin Guy Curtis (d. 1974), as well as her beloved son, Robert Edwin "Bert" Curtis (d. 1998).

She is survived by her children, James L. Curtis and David Nelson Curtis Sr.; her four grandchildren, Elisa Curtis Winn (John Winn), James Guy Curtis (Rebecca Curtis), Jennifer Lynne Curtis (Blake Dryden), and David Nelson Curtis Jr. (Kylene Short-Curtis); and her eight great-grandchildren, Nathan Lee Dryden, Ryan David Curtis, Austin James Curtis, Zoey Kaylynn Curtis, Chloe Gray Winn, Samuel Edward Winn IV, Olive Elyse Short, and Landon James Winn. In addition to her loving family, Lottie leaves behind her treasured friends including Denise Strickland, Donna McCormick, Helen Wagner and Bobbi Whitlock.

A very special thanks to Tammy Curtis for always going above and beyond to care for Lottie, Jennifer Garabedian and Lee Whelan for all the help they provided the family, the wonderful doctors and staff of JenCare Senior Medical Center, and the nurses and staff of Gentiva Medical Hospice Care.

A graveside service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, May 31, 2023, at Sunset Memorial Park, 2901 W. Hundred Road Chester, Virginia.
