Lowell Dean Fossum, age 88, of Colonial Heights, Virginia, passed away on Tuesday, December 6, 2022. He was born in Flaxton, North Dakota to Julius C. and Hanna M. (Nelson) Fossum. He married Dixie Lee Taylor on April 10, 1954. He was a wonderful provider to his family, a loving father, and grandfather.
At 18, he enlisted in the United States Navy and served as an ensign electrician’s mate in the Korean Conflict. After graduating from North Dakota State University in 1959 with an electrical engineering degree, he spent most of his career working for the Federal Government at Fort Lee (ALMC) as the Director of the Computer Science Department.
He is survived by his wife of 68 years, Dixie Lee Taylor; his children, Terri Cooper and her husband, David of North Chesterfield, VA, and Ronnie Fossum and his wife, Stacy (Tanner), of Colonial Heights, VA; grandchildren, Kyle Cooper and Kelly Cooper, Skylar and Brenlynn Tanner; sister-in-law, Pat Fossum of Moorhead, MN; and numerous nieces and nephews. Dean was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Lee Fossum and Lloyd Fossum; and sister, Ardella (Fossum) Knott.
A service and burial will be held privately at a later date. Memorial contributions may be made to St. Luke Lutheran Church, 7757 Chippenham Parkway Richmond, Virginia 23235. Arrangements are being handled by the Colonial Heights Chapel of the E. Alvin Small Funeral Homes & Crematory, 2033 Boulevard Colonial Heights, Virginia 23834.
