Lydia L. Ehmke, 94, passed away in Hopewell, Virginia on Saturday May 13, 2017. Director of the American Youth Association in Germany and the Commander of the Petersburg chapter of the Disabled American Veterans Auxiliary, Lydia was preceded in death by her loving husband, Allen Rudolph Ehmke. Lydia was a masterful gardener who loved everything in nature as well as her family and the time she was given with them all. Lydia is survived by her son, Roy Kenneth Ehmke and his wife, Sue; her grandchildren, Coraline and Miranda Ehmke; great-grandchild, Lydia Ehmke; her sister, Hanni Scheinert, and numerous nieces and nephews. The family will receive friends from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. on Thursday May 18, 2017, at Crater Road Chapel of E. Alvin Small Funeral Homes and Crematory, 3935 South Crater Road, Petersburg, Virginia 23805, with a funeral service following at 1:00 p.m. with the Reverend Paul Christian officiating. Interment will be held at 3:00 p.m. in St. Anne's Roman Catholic Cemetery, 115 Virginia Ave., Claremont, Virginia 23899.
