Lynn Calder Burnett

Lynn Calder Burnett, a devoted Christian and beloved member of her family and community, passed away peacefully on January 26, 2025. Born on August 1, 1947, in Hemingway, South Carolina, Lynn lived a life filled with faith, love, and dedication to those around her. Her Christian faith, deeply rooted in her upbringing as the daughter of a preacher, guided Lynn throughout her life. She shared this foundation of love and kindness with everyone she encountered. Her gentle spirit and unwavering devotion to God were evident in the way she lived and cared for others. Lynn was a retired teacher who touched countless lives through her work in education. 

Her passion for teaching extended beyond the classroom as she inspired those around her with patience and understanding. In addition to her professional accomplishments, Lynn had a deep love for music and was an accomplished pianist. Her piano playing brought joy to many and served as a reflection of her creative soul. She also had an eye for beauty and cherished jewelry as a form of personal expression. Whether selecting pieces for herself or sharing them with loved ones, Lynn’s appreciation for these treasures mirrored the sparkle she brought into the lives of others. 

Lynn was preceded in death by her parents, Leroy and Jessie Calder. Lynn is survived by her loving husband of 54 years, Orriss Burnett; two sons, Matthew and James (Charity) Burnett; two cherished grandchildren, Leah Marie Burnett and Marielle Burnett; her brother, Al (Frankie) Calder, her sister, Dixie (Richard) Ferris, and sister-in-law, Lona Butler; nieces, Leigh Ann Smith, Sharon Ermolowich, Stephanie Hatfield, and Kelly Amos; nephews, Alan Calder and Mark Payne. She will be remembered as a kindhearted wife, mother, grandmother, sister, aunt, and friend whose love knew no bounds. The family would like to extend their sincerest appreciation for the care and kindness shown while Lynn was a resident at Dunlop House in Colonial Heights. 

A funeral service will be held 11:00 a.m. Saturday, February 1, 2025 in the Colonial Heights Chapel of E. Alvin Small Funeral Homes and Crematory 2033 Boulevard Colonial Heights, Virginia 23834. Interment will follow in Southlawn Memorial Park S. Prince George, Virginia. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service from 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, at the funeral home. Condolences may be registered at www.ealvinsmall.com. 

As we celebrate Lynn’s life and legacy, we take comfort in knowing that she is now at peace in the presence of her Lord and Savior that she so faithfully served. May her memory continue to inspire all who knew her to live with kindness and grace. As Psalm 91:11-12 says, “For he will order his angels to protect you wherever you go. They will hold you up with their hands, so you won’t even hurt your foot on a stone.” .
