Mabel Ritchie Tomlinson, 100, passed away on Thursday, July 25, 2013. Mrs. Tomlinson was born in Matoaca, VA on July 19, 1913 to the late James and Mary Gill Ritchie, and was the widow of the Rev. Philip H. Tomlinson. She attended Duke University and later worked in the Ritchie family business. She was a long-time resident of Prince George County. Mrs. Tomlinson was an active member of Oakland Baptist Church for over 59 years (including being the Minister's wife for 37 years). Mrs. Tomlinson was one of the first and longest volunteers at the Prince George County Food and Clothes Bank. She volunteered there for 26 years, beginning with its opening in the early 1980's. She is survived by her daughters, Lee T. Wray (Major) of Halifax, VA, Phylis R. Tomlinson of Houston, TX, Betty T. Souders (Thomas) of Richmond, VA, T. Beth Bloom (Brian) of Louisville, KY; grandchildren, Stephen Wray, Jacquelyn Comuzzi (Mark), Allyn Wise (Mark), Ashley Sykes; great grandchildren, Zane, Cade, Libby, Ava, Lorelei; and sister Ruth Skelton of Portsmouth, VA; and numerous nieces and nephews. Mabel's family would like to thank her Oakland church family, Morningside of the West End, Heartland Hospice and Yvonne and Aaliyah for their loving care. The family will receive friends from 12:30 to 1:30 p.m. Monday, July 29, 2013 at the Petersburg Chapel of the E. Alvin Small Funeral Homes & Crematory, 3935 S. Crater Road. The funeral service will follow at 1:30 p.m., with the Rev. Robert Livesay III officiating. Interment will be private.
