Mae Slate

Mae F. Slate, 94, of Colonial Heights, passed away on Saturday, September 26, 2015 at her home. Born December 8, 1920, she was the daughter of the late Schuyler and Mary Fitzgerald, and was also preceded in death by her husband, William M. Slate; brother, David F. Fitzgerald; and sister, Helen L. Hale. Mrs. Slate was an active member of First Baptist Church. She worked for Beck Motor Company for some years and later retired from Brown and Williamson. She is survived by her nephews, Frank W. Fitzgerald, and David M. Fitzgerald and wife, Gayle; great niece, Amy Dubs and husband, Kevin; great nephews, Matthew Fitzgerald, and Scott Fitzgerald and fiancée, Liz; and long-time caregiver, Carolyn Millan. A graveside service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, September 30, 2015 in Southlawn Memorial Park, 1911 Birdsong Rd, S. Prince George, Virginia, 23805, with Pastor Rob Dawson officiating. Funeral arrangements are being handled by E. Alvin Small Funeral Homes and Crematory, 2033 Boulevard, Colonial Heights, Virginia, 23834.
