Magaline LaVelle Cash Bass, age 91, of Henderson, North Carolina, passed away on December 30, 2012. Magaline was born in Charlottesville, VA on February 8, 1921. She graduated from Lane High School in Charlottesville. She was married to David Binford Bass of Moseley, VA on June 15, 1940; they were married 60 years. Magaline worked as a purchasing officer for VA Department of State Police for 25 years. She enjoyed traveling, needlework, volunteering at Petersburg General Hospital, and spending time with family and friends. She was also actively involved in The Order of the Eastern Star, The Order of Amaranth, Woodmen of the World, Petersburg Chapter Number 1, and other local senior citizens groups. Magaline is survived by her children, Shirley Bass Arrington (William) of Colonial Heights, Virginia, Robert Howard Bass (Judy) of Henderson, North Carolina, Paula Bass Strickland (Ross) of Nashville, North Carolina; her grandchildren, William (Bill) Lloyd Arrington, Jr. (Cathy), Ruthann Bass McComb (Adam), Tracy Bass Ellis (Jessie), Kathryn Bass Rose(Robby), Binford Ross Strickland (Kristina), Matthew Paul Strickland (Maria), Coley Strickland Smith (Shawn); nine great-grandchildren; nieces and nephews and other family and friends. Magaline is preceded in death by her parents, Troye Edwards Cash and Robert Barksdale Cash of Charlottesville, VA, her sister, Edythe Cash Adams of Fayetteville, Arkansas, and her husband, David Binford Bass of Colonial Heights, VA. A funeral service will be held at 1:00 p.m. Friday, January 4, 2013 at Mt. Hermon Baptist Church 18100 Genito Road Moseley, Virginia 23120, with Dr. Bert Browning of Huguenot Road Baptist Church in Chesterfield County Virginia, officiating. Burial will follow in the Mt. Hermon Baptist Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends on Thursday, January 3, 2013 from 7:00 to 8:30 p.m. at the Colonial Heights Chapel of E. Alvin Small Funeral Homes and Crematory 2033 Boulevard and also on Friday from 12:00 p.m. to 1:00 p.m. at church. Pallbearers for the funeral service will be her grandsons.
