Major Denzel Victor Reed, U.S. Army Ret., 93, of Prince George, passed away on Sunday, December 30, 2012 He was the son of the late Walter Alvin and Cora Irene Sommerfeld Reed. He was preceded in death by a son, M. Dean Reed and a daughter, Jacqueline Reed. He was a member of Trinity United Methodist Church in Petersburg, and retired as a supervisor at the Bellwood Defense Supply Center. Mr. Reed is survived by two sons, Denzel V. Reed Jr. and his wife, Katherine C., of Prince George and Jeff Reed of Disputanta; four grandchildren; Brent Reed, Kate Reed, Heather Reed and Jayson Reed; six great-grandchildren; two sisters Virginia Ashcraft of Texas and Sharon Gabower of Arizona; and numerous nieces and nephews. A funeral service will be Thursday, January 3, 2013 at 2:00p.m. at Trinity United Methodist Church, 215 South Sycamore Street, Petersburg, VA. 23803 with the Dr. Gerald Miller officiating. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service. Burial will be Friday, January 4, 2013 at 11:00a.m. in the Albert G. Horton Jr. Memorial Veterans Cemetery, Suffolk VA.
