CW4 U. S. Army Retired, Malcolm Harvey McDonald, 87, of Colonial Heights, passed away Wednesday, July 29, 2009. He was a native of Hibbing, Minnesota and the son of the late John and Mabel Osgood McDonald. Mr. McDonald served in the U.S. Army during the Battle of the Bulge in WW II, the Korean conflict, Vietnam War, and received many awards and medals. He retired as a civil service employee at Ft Lee. He was a member of the Colonial Heights American Legion Post 284 and the Association of Retired Military Personnel. Survivors include his wife, Nellie C. McDonald; three sons, Dan F. McDonald and wife, Kathleen, Richard A. McDonald and wife, Teresa all of Richmond, John A. McDonald and wife, Bonnie of Raleigh, North Carolina, and five grandchildren. A Graveside service will be held Thursday, August 20, 2009 at 1:00 p.m. in Arlington National Cemetery with military honors. An American Legion service will be held 7:00 p.m. Monday August 3, 2009 at the Colonial Heights chapel of the E. Alvin Small Funeral Home and Crematory 2033 Boulevard, family visitation to follow. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society 4240 Park Place Court,Glen Allen, VA 23060.
