Margaret Andrews Bowlin of Concord, NC, formerly of Colonial Heights, Virginia, passed away Wednesday June 18, 2008 in Concord North Carolina. Mrs. Bowlin was 86 years old and was the widow of Norman W. Bowlin, Sr. and daughter of Horace E. and Mable H. Andrews. Mrs. Bowlin was preceded in death by her grandson , Norman W. Bowlin, III and her brother John Edward Andrews, both from Colonial Heights. Mrs. Bowlin is survived by her son Norman Weston Bowlin, Jr. and grandson Kyle Bowlin of Concord, North Carolina, grandson Anthony W. Bowlin and great grandsons Buddy and Chase Bowlin of Chesterfield, Virginia. Mrs. Bowlin was a retired Virginia State employee with 50 years and nine months of service. She began her state employment in April, 1939 as a Junior Stenographer in the office of Governor James H. Price. She retired in January 1990 as Senior Executive Assistant to Governor Gerald Baliles. During her period of state service, she was associated with 13 governors. Mrs. Bowlin served on the Colonial Heights city council from 1960 to 1964 and was an active member of Highland United Methodist Church. She was also an affiliate member of Forest Hill United Methodist Church in Concord. Mrs. Bowlin was also an active duckpin bowler and a member of the Virginia Ladies Professional All Star tour. Visitation will be at E. Alvin Small funeral home at 2033 Boulevard in Colonial Heights on Friday from 7:00 to 8:30 pm. (tonight). Funeral services will be held at Highland United Methodist Church at 125 East Westover Ave., Colonial Heights, Virginia 23834 on Saturday June 21, 2008 at 2:00 pm. Interment will be at Southlawn Memorial Cemetery in Prince George, Virginia immediately following the service. .Flowers are appreciated or memorial contributions may be made to Highland United Methodist Church.
