Margaret Smith

Margaret Ferguson Smith, 78, of Colonial Heights, passed at home with her beloved husband, and close-knit family at her side on Friday January 29, 2021.  She was born July 5, 1942 in North Carolina to the late Alfred L. and Elizabeth Myrick Ferguson, and was preceded in death by her stepmother Phyllis D. Ferguson and her twin sister Margie Ferguson Paxton.  Margaret retired after 30 years of service from the Virginia State Tax Department then went to work for the Petersburg School Board office as a receptionist. She was a member of Faith Baptist Church in Colonial Heights.   Margaret is survived by her loving husband, Harry F. Smith Jr.; two sisters, Linda F. Hardison and Evelyn May and her husband, Bland; two brothers, Alfred L. Ferguson Jr. and his wife, Lynn and Michael D. Ferguson and his wife, Susan; and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins. Margaret loved the Lord and adored her husband. She loved to do ministry work and held positions in various ministries throughout the years with her husband by her side. She was part of the Senior Saint and Visitation ministries, where she would go to hospitals and nursing homes to visit the sick and the elderly. Margaret also had her own Telephone ministry when she would call anyone who was sick to reach out and talk to them in their time of need. A funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, February 4, 2021 at Faith Baptist Church, 1226 West Roslyn Road, Colonial Heights, Virginia 23834 with the Reverend Eugene Ballance officiating.  Interment will follow in Southlawn Memorial Park, Prince George, Virginia.  The family will receive friends at the church on Thursday, one hour prior to the service from 10:00-11:00 a.m.  In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Faith Baptist Church.  Funeral arrangements are being handled by the Colonial Heights Chapel of E.
