Margaret G. Marek, 87, a lifelong resident of Petersburg and Colonial Heights, died Sunday, October 26, 2008 at the Colonial Heights Health Care Center. She was the daughter of the late Alvin A. and Sadie Patillo Goulder, and was the widow of Herbert C. Marek having been married for 59 years. She was preceded in death by two brothers, Alvin Goulder of Colonial Heights, and Preston Goulder, who was killed in the D-Day invasion during WWII. Mrs. Marek was a retired Bookkeeper, a Charter member of Colonial Christian Church in Colonial Heights, which was founded in 1989, where she served as Church Treasurer until she retired two years ago. She was a member of the church choir, was the leader of the Christian Women‘s Fellowship for many years, and was always interested in missionary work of the church and the well being of all her family, neighbors and friends. She is survived by a son and daughter-in-law, Donald C. Marek and wife Leslie of Marietta, Georgia; two grandchildren, Paul Courtland Marek and wife Kathryn of Roswell, Georgia and Leanne Michelle Marek of Auburn University, Alabama; two local nephews, Bobby Goulder and Tommy Marek. Funeral services will be held at 1:00 p.m. Saturday, November 1, 2008 in the Colonial Christian Church with Reverend Clay Boyd officiating. Burial will be in Blandford Cemetery, Petersburg. The family will receive friends from 7 to 8:30 p.m. Friday at the Colonial Heights Chapel of the E. Alvin Small Funeral Homes and Crematory, 2033 Boulevard.
