Margaret Porter

Margaret Powell Porter, 78, of Colonial Heights, passed away on Wednesday, August 20, 2014 at Southside Regional Medical Center. Born in Petersburg, she was the daughter of the late Claude Powell Sr. and Eleanor Boisseau Powell, and was preceded in death by a brother, Claude Powell Jr. and two sisters, Jean Whitchurch, Judy Barnes and son-in-law Keith Underwood. Mrs. Porter was a member of Lakemont Baptist Church, Petersburg for over 43 years. She is survived by her loving and devoted husband of 41 years, Gene Porter; daughters, Vanessa Perkins of Colonial Heights and Amy Porter Crump and husband, Joey of New Kent; grandchildren, Emily Underwood, Justin Underwood, Thomas Patteson, Meredith Reese, Bryan Patteson, Caleb Reese and Rachel Reese; great-grandchildren, Hailey Mae Patteson and Adelynn West; a brother, Robert Powell; numerous nieces and nephews. A Funeral Service will be held at 2:00 p.m. Monday, August 25, 2014 at the Petersburg Chapel of the E. Alvin Small Funeral Homes & Crematory, 3935 South Crater Road Petersburg, Virginia 23805. Burial will follow in Southlawn Memorial Park, Prince George. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8:00 p.m. Sunday, August 24, 2014 at the funeral home.
