Margaret Shell

November 22, 1939 — May 7, 2017

Margaret Blackwell Shell, 77, of Chester passed away on Sunday, May 7, 2017. She was preceded in death by her parents Robert G Blackwell and Margaret E Blackwell, six brothers, four sisters, and a granddaughter, Leighton Dillard. She is survived by her husband, Herman Shell (Bookie); daughters, Melissa Oliver (Keith), Melody Dillard (Rob), Robin Fried (Johnny), Tammy Gibbs (Craig) and grandchildren, Alyson Beacham, Caleb and Avery Dillard, Katie Mullins (Michael) and Dallas Fried and many nieces and nephews. Upon her retirement from Macy's in 2002, Margaret spent her time volunteering at SRMC and serving on various committees at her church, Swift Creek Baptist. Her greatest joys were her grandchildren which she affectionately called "Nana's Babies", crocheting, cleaning, singing, and her morning devotions. While our hearts are broken that she is no longer with us, we want to celebrate that she has arrived in her eternal home. Mom's favorite color was white, and to honor her memory we encourage you to celebrate her life and wear white or your favorite pastel color. A funeral service will be held 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, May 11, 2017 in the Colonial Heights Chapel of E. Alvin Small Funeral Homes and Crematory 2033 Boulevard Colonial Heights, Virginia 23834 with the Reverend Dr. Steve Felker officiating. Burial to follow at Sunset Memorial Park, Chester. The family will receive friends Wednesday evening from 6-8:00 p.m. at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Swift Creek Baptist Church 18510 Branders Bridge Rd., S. Chesterfield, VA 23834. Condolences may be registered at www.ealvinsmall.com.
