Marie Archer Canoles, 75, of S. Chesterfield, passed away in her home on Jan 26, 2021. She was born Sept 23, 1945 in Matoaca, Virginia to the late George Washington Archer and Susie Woodson Archer. Mrs. Canoles was a long-time member of Enon Baptist Church, serving as a Sunday School teacher, Director, and on many committees throughout the years. She was also active in the Matoaca Woman’s Club and was twice honored as the “Outstanding Member” for her commitment and service ethic. She retired from Defense Supply Center Richmond in 2004 as a Contract Specialist. She loved her country and was honored to have had a long career as a civil servant. Marie embodied kindness and served as a shining example of strength. She battled Ovarian cancer for 15 years, and she often said she was determined not to let cancer “steal her joy.” A devoted wife, she faithfully cared for her husband, Robert, throughout his long battle with many health issues, even while taking chemotherapy herself. She raised two daughters, teaching them to always try their best and strive for excellence. Above all, she made sure they knew Jesus Christ and modeled the importance of a personal relationship with Him. She was preceded in death by her husband, Robert L. Canoles; and brother, Wayne “Cad” Archer. She is survived by her daughters, Kimberly A. Canoles and Cathy M. Canoles (Martin D. Schanley); grandchildren, Jason M. Taylor, Jenna Schanley, Joshua Schanley, Andrew Schanley, and Sadie Schanley; siblings, George E. Archer (Ann) and Grace A. Jones (Charles); and many nieces, nephews, and beloved friends. A funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, February 3, 2021 at Enon Baptist Church, 13607 N. Enon Church Road, Chester, Virginia 23836. The family will receive guests beginning at 10:00 a.m., one hour prior to the service. Interment to follow at Sunset Memorial Park, Chester.
