Marion Alderson, Sr.

March 24, 1921 — February 11, 2015

Marion Clintwood Alderson, Sr., 93, of Colonial Heights left his earthly home on Wednesday, February 11, 2015. He has joined his beloved wife of 66 years, Catherine in their heavenly home. He was born on March 24, 1921 in Halifax County, Virginia to William and Sallie Dunn Alderson. Mr. Alderson was a graduate of Benvenue High School in Rocky Mount, N.C. He was a U.S. Army Veteran of WWII, who served with the Battery B-19th Field Artillery Battalion 5th Division Artillery. Before retiring in 1982, he was employed with the Seaboard Coastline Railroad and the U.S. Postal Service. Mr. Alderson was a member of the American Legion Post #284, the VFW, AARP and United Transportation (UTC). He is survived by his four children and their spouses, Jo Carol and Jimmy Walker of Lexington, South Carolina, Diane and Bill Golden of Colonial Heights, Leslie and David Hasek of Glen Allen, and M.C. Jr. and Brenda Alderson of Colonial Heights; nine grandchildren; six great-grandchildren, and his sister Iolene Parker of Norfolk. He was loved and will be missed by his extended family and special friends and neighbors. A Funeral Service will be held at 2:00 p.m. Saturday, February 14, 2015 at Immanuel Baptist Church, 620 Lafayette Ave., Colonial Heights, Virginia 23834 with the Reverend Fred Adkins officiating. Interment will follow at Southlawn Memorial Park, Prince George. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8:00 p.m. Friday evening at the Colonial Heights Chapel of the E. Alvin Small Funeral Homes & Crematory, 2033 Boulevard. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Immanuel Baptist Church Building Fund. Condolences may be registered at www.ealvinsmall.com.
