Marion Whitehead

November 29, 1920 — January 23, 2015

Marion Nichols Whitehead, 94, of Colonial Heights, passed away on Friday, January 23, 2015 at Vista Park Memory Care Center, Petersburg. Born in Hopewell, she was the daughter of the late Burl and Elizabeth Logwood Nichols, and the widow of Robert Lee Whitehead Sr. She was a lifelong member of the Disciples of Christ, and a Charter Member of the Colonial Christian Church. She was a former secretary and Optometric Assistant, of 16 years, for Dr. Philip McEwen, Optometrist in Petersburg. Mrs. Whitehead was a well-known soloist, she was as a member of her church choir, and was heard at many weddings and funerals throughout the tri-city area. Mrs. Whitehead is survived by a son, Robert Lee Whitehead Jr. and wife, Vicki of Moseley; daughters, Gayle W. Edwards of Colonial Heights and Linda W. Scherer and husband, Don of Colonial Heights; grandchildren, Julie Ann Keiser of California, David Johnston of Colonial Heights, Daniel Johnston and wife, Shelley of S. Chesterfield, and Kimberly Johnston of Colonial Heights, Bryan Edwards of Richmond, Lauren Robinson and husband, Brandon of Richmond, and Daniel Whitehead of Moseley ; great grandchildren, Heidi Keiser and husband, Jake Beaty of California, Heather Keiser of California, Jennifer Johnston of Hopewell, Michael Johnston of Dinwiddie, and Kari Lynn Johnston of Colonial Heights, Tyler Nash of Tappahannock, Brittany Corey, Matthew, and Caleb Johnston all of S. Chesterfield, Amber Renee Watkins of Richmond, Justin Watkins of Chester and Cody Lane of Colonial Heights, Ashleigh and Justin Ellis both of Stuart, Florida; great-great grandchildren, Maia Mirro, Trentin Thibodeaux and Landon Lee Johnston; a sister, Dorothy Jones, and a brother, Leland Nichols both of New Bern, North Carolina. A Funeral Service will be held at 1:00 p.m. Tuesday, January 27, 2015 in Colonial Christian Church, 295 Dunlop Farms Boulevard, Colonial Heights, Virginia 23834 with the Reverend Alan Little officiating. Burial will be held at 2:15 p.m. Tuesday in Blandford Cemetery, Petersburg. The family will receive friends from 3-4:30 p.m. Sunday, January 25, 2015 at the church. Arrangements by the Colonial Heights Chapel of the E. Alvin Small Funeral Homes & Crematory, 2033 Boulevard. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Colonial Christian Church or Alzheimer's Association, 4600 Cox Road, Suite 130, Glen Allen, Virginia 23060.
