Marjorie Clay DeDanko 77, of Colonial Heights, passed away Wednesday, April 10, 2024, at Southside Medical Center Petersburg, Virginia. She was born September 27, 1946, to the late William H. Clay and Leora Lindsey Clay, and was also preceded in death by her daughter, Tammy Lynn DeDanko, sister, Scarlette Lee Muehler; niece, Lisa Clay Alascio; and beloved dog, Prissy Lynn. After serving as a dispatcher for the Colonial Heights Police Department, she moved on to become the Commissioner of Revenue for Colonial Heights and served two terms, retiring in 2014. Aside from her career, Margie was passionate about the American Legion, and she was a dedicated member of the Ladies Auxillary 284. She loved shopping, visiting family, and helping people. She would assist her elderly peers with taxes, and just about anything else she could. Her kindness is lived on by her family; her loving husband, Andrew Fred (J.R.) DeDanko Jr.; brother, Ralph Clay (Sherry) of Chesterfield; brother, Jimmy Clay of Colonial Heights; brother-in-law, Darryl Muhler; sister-in-law, Barbara Jessup; three nieces, Tracy Clay Muehler (Terry Wayne), Theresa Higgins (Keith), Lindsay Clay (Kirk); nephew, Ryan Clay (Rebecca); three great-nieces, Reese Kirkland, Alayna Clay, and MacKenzie Clay; great-nephews, Jaxon Clay, and Christopher Higgins (Jenny); beloved brat, Katie Lynn; and special friends, Carol Vaughn, Nancy Coe, Joan Patrick, and Brenda Thermos; and other extended great-nieces and nephews.
A funeral service will be held 11:00 a.m. Thursday, April 18, 2024, in the Colonial Heights Chapel of E. Alvin Small Funeral Homes and Crematory 2033 Boulevard Colonial Heights, Virginia 23834. Entombment will follow in Southlawn Memorial Park, S. Prince George, Virginia. The family will receive friends Wednesday, April 17, 2024 from 6:00 - 8:00 p.m. at the funeral home.
