Marjorie Crabtree Harris, 81, of Colonial Heights, loving mother, grandmother and great-grandmother, passed away Saturday, January 16, 2016 at the Dunlop House. She was born February 12, 1934 to the late Durward and Edna Nichols Crabtree; and was preceded in death by her husband of 57 years, Donald W. "Blow" Harris; and a daughter, Donna Karen Harris. Mrs. Harris was a member of the United States Karate Association, she was the first woman to earn a Black Belt in the State of Virginia, and was awarded an 8th Degree Black Belt. Among numerous other honors, she also came in 2nd place at the United States Karate Association Grand Nationals Men's Black Belt Breaking Competition. Mrs. Harris was the Sensei of Kyokushinkia Karate School in the Tri Cites, for many years. She is survived by her children, Kathi Jo Harris-Temple and husband, Van, Kelli H. Ewick and husband, N. Steve, Terrance D. Harris and partner, Joseph Pubillones, and Troy D. Harris and wife, Cheryl; grandchildren, J. Harris Wilson, D. Mason Lemocks, S. Thor Ewick and wife, Courtney, Weston K. Ewick and partner, Briley Vaughan and Julia E. Harris; great-granddaughter, Layla Klein Ewick; sister, JoAnne C. Mayes and husband, Travis; brother, Durward E. Crabtree and wife, Jeannie; her dear friend Judy Vaiden Fletcher; numerous extended family members; and many loving friends and neighbors. A memorial service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, January 20, 2016 at Colonial Christian Church, 295 Dunlop Farms Blvd, Colonial Heights, Virginia 23834. Interment will be private. The family will receive friends Tuesday, January 19, 2016 from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. at the E. Alvin Small Funeral Homes and Crematory, 2033 Boulevard, Colonial Heights, Virginia 23834.
