Mark W. Ives, 56, of Disputanta, Virginia, passed away on Sunday, November 1, 2015 at St. Mary's Hospital in Richmond, Virginia. Born on September 18, 1959, he was the son of the late Amos Everett and Frances Mae Ives. As a young man, Mark practiced martial arts, ultimately earning himself a black belt. Mr. Ives had a successful military career, first as a United States Marine and finishing up in the United States Air Force, having served many tours throughout Southeast Asia and the Middle East. He started as a Marine Special Forces in Reconnaissance and later as a Communications Officer and special agent for the Office of Special Investigation for the United States Air Force. After separating from the Air Force, Mark worked as Senior Vice President and Chief Information Officer for Alion Science and Technology for 14 years. He is survived by his loving wife of 20 years, Millie Ives; sisters, Donna Riley and husband, Larry, Linda Patenode and husband, Robert, Melody Delong and husband, Robert; beloved niece, Heather Delong; and nephews Rick Riley, Lawrence Riley, Roddy Riley, David Patenode and Robert Patenode. A Funeral Service will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, November 7, 2015 at the Crater Road Chapel of E. Alvin Small Funeral Homes and Crematory, 3935 S. Crater Road, Petersburg, Virginia 23805, with the Reverend Dr. Donna Mott officiating. The family will receive friends an hour prior to the service from 12:00 - 1:00 p.m. Interment will be private.
