Mark Marshall Jr.

Mark Warren Marshall Jr., 33, of Charles City and formerly of Hopewell, passed away Wednesday, April 17, 2019. Mark served his country in the United States Navy and the National Guard. He was a class of 2004 graduate of Hopewell High School and a member of the Boy Scouts of America in Hopewell (St. Michael). He also belonged to the Hopewell Moose Lodge and V.F.W. 637 in Hopewell. He was preceded in death by his grandfather, Donald A. Helsel Sr. He is survived by his son, Hayden Bradley Marshall; mother and stepfather, Tammy and Douglas Helsel of Disputanta; father, Mark W. Marshall Sr. of Hopewell; grandparents, John and Jackie Marshall of Hopewell; grandmother, Diana Helsel of Disputanta; sister, Amy Nicole Marshall Cole of Hopewell; brother, Matthew Alan Marshall of Disputanta; nieces, Emma Marshall and Laney Winner; nephews, Evan Cole and Landon Grogan; his girlfriend, Elizabeth McGaha; and numerous aunts, uncles, and cousins. A funeral service will be held at 7:00 p.m. on Monday, April 22, 2019 at the Crater Road Chapel of E. Alvin Small Funeral Homes and Crematory, 3935 S. Crater Road, Petersburg, Virginia 23805 with the Rev. Dr. Steve Felker officiating. The family will receive friends at the funeral home an hour prior to the service, beginning at 6:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Disabled American Veterans, www.dav.org.
