Mark Edward McCormack, Sr. 79, a native of Boston, MA and longtime resident of Virginia departed this life on September 19, 2010 at Johnston Willis Hospital in Richmond after a courageous battle with pancreatic cancer. He was a mechanical engineer and graduate of Northeastern University, Boston, MA. He served in the Navy and Army Reserves, he retired as Deputy Director from the Troop Support Agency at Fort Lee, VA in 1990. He was a master gardener and a gourmet cook. He lived his life to the fullest and loved to tell jokes, especially email jokes that he received from friends and family .He was preceded in death by his parents Mark E. McCormack and Ellen Teresa McCormack, his brother Joseph Thomas McCormack, his sister Claire Donelan, his wife Geraldine Elizabeth McCormack and his grandson Christopher Lance Morgan. He is survived by his five children and thirteen grandchildren, Cathie Richardson (husband, Michael, and their children Christopher and Chelsea), Mark E. McCormack Jr. (wife, Robin, and their children Travis, Brandon, and Alison), Steven D. McCormack (wife, Tammy, and their children, Heather McCormack, David Carnes, and Courtney McCormack), Teresa Pascoe (husband, Chris, and their children, Justin and Jessica Edwards and Brittney Pascoe), John McCormack (wife, Barbara, and their children, Maci and Dylan); sister Nancy Mahoney of Norwell, MA; brothers Daniel McCormack of Taunton, MA and Paul McCormack of Squantum, MA, and numerous family and friends. His oldest granddaughter Heather McCormack just received her Masters Degree from his Alma Mater. He was expecting his first great-grandchild in December. A funeral mass will be held 11 a.m. Thursday, September 23, 2010 at St. Ann Catholic Church, 17111 Jefferson Davis Hwy., Colonial Heights, Va. Father Lou Ruoff will officiate. The family will receive friends Wednesday September 22, 2010 from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. at the Colonial Heights Chapel of the E. Alvin Small Funeral Home & Crematory, 2033 Boulevard. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society .
