Mark Pond

August 11, 1953 — March 28, 2023

Colonial Heights

Mark Everett Pond, 69, of Colonial Heights VA, passed away on March 28th, 2023. Mark was the son of late William Everett Pond Sr. and Phyllis Ann Pond of Colonial Heights. He was born on August 11th, 1953, in Petersburg Virginia and grew up in Colonial Heights, where he graduated in 1971. Mark was a talented and accomplished musician. He began playing keyboards in local bands while still in high school, often requiring to be chaperoned by his father because of his young age. He continued his music passion throughout his life, playing in bands, as a solo act and even teaching music. Mark also loved traveling our beautiful country in his RV with his wife Toni. They always had great tales to tell about their adventures. By trade, Mark was a plumber. In 1982, he partnered with James G. Kester to start Colonial Plumbing and Heating where he worked for 33 years until he retired in 2015. In his last few years, his biggest joy was spending time with his two grandsons, Franklin and Lewis. He was also an active member of Ettrick United Methodist.  Mark was an upbeat and outgoing person. He never met a stranger and if you spent just a few minutes with him, you were sure to have a laugh. Mark will be missed by all that knew and loved him.

Mark is survived by his wife, Toni Pond; his children, Marion Pond, Phyllis (Ricky) Ward, Angie (Robert) Irons, and Luigi Boccella; grandchildren, Richard Franklin Ward IV, Lewis Ward, Dayna Irons, Daphane Garges, Jordan Boccella, Jessica Boccella, Amanda Boccella, and Mariah Boccella; eight great grandchildren; siblings, Michael (Kathy) Pond, Julie (Steve) Groat, Guy Pond, and William (Janice) Pond Jr.

A celebration of life will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Sunday, May 7, 2023, at American Legion Post 2, 820 Winfield Rd, Petersburg, VA 23803.  In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Mark’s honor to Crater Hospice or Colonial Heights Animal Shelter.
