Marshall Lafayette Thomas Sr., 71, of Dinwiddie County, passed away on Friday, October 22, 2010 at his residence. Born in Mecklenburg County, Marshall was the son of the late Ralph and Missouri Griffin Thomas and was preceded in death by a son, James Early Thomas, and a brother, Frankie Thomas. Mr. Thomas is retired from Brown and Williamson Tobacco Company and was a member of Oak Grove United Methodist Church in Dinwiddie. Marshall is survived by his wife, Edith Thomas; two sons, M.L. Thomas Jr., and Russell Thomas both of Dinwiddie; two daughters, Barbara T. Evans and husband, Robert of Dinwiddie, and Loretta T. Morris and husband, Kevin of Disputanta; two sisters, Bernice (Sissy) Johnson and husband, Jay of Dinwiddie, and Betty Grant and husband, Raymond of Prince George; four grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. A graveside service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Monday, October 25, 2010 at Rowanta Methodist Church in Dinwiddie with the Rev. Gene Tatum and Rev. Ron Plyler officiating. The family will receive friends from 3 to 4:30 p.m. Sunday at the Petersburg Chapel of the E. Alvin Small Funeral Homes and Crematory, 3935 S. Crater Road.
