Martha Baldwin Nichols, 71, of Colonial Heights, Virginia, passed away on Friday, July 21, 2017. Born September 9, 1945 to the late Allan Warren Baldwin Sr. and Lula Mae Hingerty, Martha grew up as a regular and faithful member of St. John's Episcopal Church in City Point and graduated as a member of the Hopewell High School class of 1963. Martha was preceded in death by her husband of over twenty years, Benjamin William Nichols III and is survived by her high school sweetheart, William (Bill) Lee Blanks; her loving daughters, Betsy Smith and her fiancé, Wes and Amy N. Sollenberger and her husband, Ryan; step-daughters, Mary Brandon and her husband, Mark and Danielle Blanks and her significant other Tim; her grandchildren, Brandon Talley and Trevor and Preston Sollenberger; her brothers, Allan W. Baldwin Jr. and his wife, Inez and David M. Baldwin Sr. and his wife, Ruth; special cousin, Norma Hitchens as well as numerous nieces and nephews. A graveside service will be held Tuesday, July 25, 2017 at 10:00 a.m. in Blandford Cemetery, 319 S. Crater Road, Petersburg, Virginia 23803 with the Pastor Constance Moody officiating. A funeral procession will leave the funeral home at 9:30 a.m. The family will receive friends on Monday, July 24, 2017 from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at the Colonial Heights chapel of E. Alvin Small Funeral Homes and Crematory, 2033 Boulevard, Colonial Heights, Virginia 23834. A reception will follow immediately after the service at the home of Mary Brandon, 20620 River Rd, Southerland, Virginia 23885. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be offered to the National Parkinson's Foundation, 200 SE 1st Street, Suite 800, Miami, Florida 33131, or online to the Michael J. Fox Foundation for Parkinson's Research at www.michaeljfox.org/ Condolences may be registered at www.ealvinsmall.com
