Martha Wray Saunders, 89, of Colonial Heights, passed away on Monday, May 24, 2010 at Riverview on the Appomattox. She was a widow of Charles C. Saunders Jr. and also Ashland D Wray. She was the daughter of the late James T. and Maude Carter Porter, and was predeceased in death by her only son, Robert "Bobby' Duane Wray. Mrs. Saunders was a member of Immanuel Baptist Church, the ABWA and Past President of Credit Professionals International, Petersburg Chapter. She was employed by The Oak as Office Manager for 25 years before going to Virginia First Savings and Loan where she retired in 1983 after 21 years. She is survived by a step-daughter, Julie A. Saunders of Petersburg; a granddaughter, Dina M Lefferts and husband, Todd of Nottoway; three great-grandchildren, Kristen N. Bortone, Cortney B. Losh and Kaitlin M. Losh; two great-great-grandchildren, Nathan H. and Emily M. Bortone; numerous nieces and nephews. A funeral service will be held at 2:00 p.m. Thursday, May 27, 2010 in the Colonial Heights Chapel of the E. Alvin Small Funeral Homes & Crematory, 2033 Boulevard with the Reverend Fred Adkins officiating. Interment will follow in Blandford Cemetery, Petersburg. The family will receive friends from 7 to 8:30 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.
