Martha Vaeth

Martha A. (Pat) Vaeth, wife of Lt. Col. S. L. (Sam) Vaeth, USAF (Ret.), of Colonial Heights, Virginia passed away on Wednesday, January 18, 2017. Born on February 26, 1933 in Maryville, Tennessee, she was the daughter of late Mr. & Mrs. Ben L. Cate. Mrs. Vaeth devoted 23 years of her life to her husband of 61 years in active service with the United States Air Force. She is a graduate of Maryville High School and completed two years at East Tennessee State University and one year at the University of Tennessee. Martha was a member of Wesley Methodist Church in Colonial Heights, and several craft and quilting groups in the local area. She leaves behind two sons, David and wife, Cheryl of Columbia, SC, Greg and wife, Anne of Richmond, VA; a daughter, Kathy Blanco and husband, Jim, of Manassas, VA; five grandchildren, Matthew (Susann), Jason (Tori), Ben and Emily Vaeth and Dylan Blanco, who were a very important part of her life. She is also survived by two brothers, Benny (Nancy) and Jimmy (Karen) of Tennessee; and numerous nieces and nephews. A funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, January 25, 2017 at Wesley United Methodist Church, 3701 Conduit Road, Colonial Heights, VA 23834. Interment will take place in Arlington National Cemetery at a later date. The family will receive friends from 6:00 - 8:00 p.m. on Tuesday night, January 24, 2017 at the Colonial Heights Chapel of E. Alvin Small Funeral Home, 2033 Boulevard. Flowers are welcome, or contributions may be made to the Vietnam Veteran's Memorial Fund, 1235 South Clark Street, Suite 910, Arlington, VA 22202.
