Mary Lee Shelburn Batten, widow of Emmett L. Batten. Born February. 9, 1925, Winston-Salem, N. C., daughter of Alfred Edgar and Mary Cooper Shelburn. Survived by one son, Emmett� L. Batten, II (Lee) and wife, Kathy T. Batten; two grand� daughters, Kristen N. Batten and Amanda M. Altizer and husband, David Altizer; great-grandson, Aiden Altizer. Educated Durham City Schools and Duke University. Retired from Colonial Heights City Schools. Past-president Colonial Heights Federated Woman's Club. Past-president North Elementary and Lakeview Elementary PTAs. Presented life membership for PTA service. Instrumental in establishment of Colonial Heights Library and Violet Bank Museum. Former member of AARP State Legislative Committee. A member of Chesterfield-Colonial Heights Board of Social Service for 18 years, serving two terms as chairman. Served on the Alzheimer Commission of the Commonwealth of Virginia under three governors. A member of a Multi-Jurisdictional Grand Jury for 21 years. A graveside service will be held 12:00 noon February 12, 2016 in Maplewood Cemetery Durham, North Carolina.
