Mary Hammond

Mary Annette Hammond, 78, of Petersburg, passed away on Tuesday, March 7, 2017. Born March 17, 1938 in Dinwiddie, Virginia, she was the daughter of the late O. Earl Jr. and Laura Milburn Young, and was also preceded in death by her husband, Jimmie Allen Hammond. She was a member of New Jerusalem Baptist Church in Hopewell and a retired clerk for the Produce Center #1 on Boydton Plank Rd. She is survived by her three sons, James E. Hammond (Barbara) of Dinwiddie, Bobby A. Hammond (Debbie) of Stafford, and Michael R. Hammond (Becky) of Dinwiddie; a daughter, Sandra J. Gilliland (Mike) of Petersburg; grandchildren, Jamie Hammond Strosnider, Holly Hammond Varnier, Michael Hammond, Megan Hammond, Zack Hammond, Savannah Hammond, Brian Sprouse, and Jeremy Sprouse; 13 great-grandchildren; two sisters, Judy Coward and Nancy Miles and numerous extended family members. A graveside service will be held Friday, March 10, 2017 at 12:30p.m. in Southlawn Memorial Park, S. Prince George, Virginia with Reverend Robin Lester officiating. Arrangements are being handled by the Crater Road Chapel of E. Alvin Small Funeral Homes and Crematory.
