Mary Tatum Hawkins, 97, of Dinwiddie, passed away on Wednesday, November 20, 2013 at the Colonial Heights Health Care Center. Born in Dinwiddie, she was the daughter of the late Henry M. and Jennie Lufsey Tatum. She was preceded in death by her husband, Willie Donnon Hawkins; three brothers, George William Tatum, John Henry Tatum, and Gordon Lee Tatum; and a sister, Helen Elizabeth Wade. She was a member of the Rowanty Methodist Church. She is survived by her daughter, Patsy Virginia Penley; grandchildren, Willie Donald McAllister, Cathy Lynn Parent, Richard Wayne McAllister, and Howard Benton Penley III; great-grandchildren, Dylan Scott Pendergrass, Brianna Nicole Pendergrass, Tiffany Marie Pendergrass, Shannon Nicole McAllister, Karah Brook Gibbs, and Dana Gibbs; a brother, James Early Tatum; a sister, Grace T. Newcomb; and a devoted niece, Edith Tatum Thomas. A graveside service will be held at 2:00 p.m. Friday, November 22, 2013 in Rowanta Methodist Church Cemetery, 16118 Old Stage Road, Carson, Virginia 23830 with the Reverend Ron D. Plyler officiating.
