Mary Pearl Hudson, 80, of Colonial Heights, passed away on Saturday, December 13, 2008 at Southside Regional Medical Center. She was the daughter of the late Joseph and Pearl Tappley Barnette. Mary was a devoted, loving wife and mother. Raising her children and three of her grandchildren was her life's work. Mary was also her children's best friend and confidant. She was loved by all of her family and will be greatly missed. She and her husband were constant companions, and even after 64 years of marriage remained deeply in love with each other. She is survived by her husband, Robert E. Hudson Sr.; two sons, Robert E. Hudson Jr. and wife, Sue of De Witt, and Roland E. Hudson and wife Yvette of Dinwiddie; a daughter, Emily Hudson Spence of Colonial Heights; nine grandchildren, Kevin L. Alford, Robert E. Alford, Roland E. Hudson Jr., Keith R. Hudson, Justin A. Hudson, Kimberly F. McCartney, Amanda M. Wood, Holly N. Hudson, and Meghan E. Hudson; 16 great-grandchildren; one sister, Effie Arrell; a special niece, Margo Wood; numerous nieces and nephews. The family will receive friends from 7 to 8:30 p.m. Wednesday, December 17, 2008 at the Colonial Heights Chapel of the E. Alvin Small Funeral Homes & Crematory, 2033 Boulevard
