Mary K. Martin, 89, of Hopewell, Virginia, passed away on Friday, November 3, 2023. Born March 19, 1934, she was the only child of the late Catherine and Gus Schiller, and was also preceded in death by her beloved husband of 43 years, Oliver Harold Martin; son, Keith Oliver Martin; and grandson, Tristan Martin. A beloved mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and aunt, her unwavering support and affection made a profound impact on the lives of her loved ones.
She was a longtime member of Powers Memorial Baptist Church, where she served as a secretary and helped with church finances for many years and was an active member of the church choir.
Mary K's greatest passion in life was spending time with her family, especially her grandkids and great-grandkids. She showered them with love, always offering her world famous grandma-hugs and the best listening ear. One of her favorite pastimes was playing games and she would light up with excitement when the grandkids would come over for a game night. Phase 10 and Skipbo brought her hours of joy and laughter alongside some of her favorite people. Although she was a feisty competitor, hurrying each player up if they took too long, she reveled in the competition and treasured the memories created during these game nights.
In addition to her family, Mary K. cherished the companionship with her friends at the Hopewell Community Center. Together, they formed a tight-knit group, meeting regularly to play Dominos and other games. These gatherings fostered lasting friendships and provided Mary K. with a sense of community and support.
Mary K's legacy will forever be etched in the hearts of those who knew her. She leaves behind a rich tapestry of memories filled with love, laughter, and cherished moments. Her unwavering presence and unconditional support were the cornerstones of her family's lives, and her warm smile and infectious laughter will be deeply missed.
