Mary Mccabe

Mary "Mimi" McCabe, 74, passed away on Friday, May 13, 2016 at Colonial Heights Healthcare. Born on March 23, 1942, she was the daughter of the late Willis Cook and Mary Lee Garnett, and was also preceded in death by her sisters, Ann Lee Geier and Frances Gayle Wheeler. Mary attended Ivey Memorial United Methodist Church for many years. She was an advocate for animals as an SPCA volunteer and she enjoyed the outdoor life very much. Mrs. McCabe worked at several different places such as AT&T Communications, Crab Louie's Seafood Tavern and Ruth's Chris Steak House in Midlothian, Virginia, and in human resource at Hecht's Department Store. Mary was most well-known for the extraordinary care she provided to many family members and friends before their own passing. She is survived by her loving husband, Bobby McCabe III; daughter, Cheryl Garnett Harriss (James E. Hatcher III); step-son, Billy McCabe (Rexanna); granddaughters, Marion April and Dakota Elizabeth Hatcher; step-grandchildren, Ashley, Lindsey and Macie McCabe; brother, Willie Cook Garnett, Jr. (Anessa); numerous nieces and nephews; and good friends, Elizabeth and Stewart Staples and their children, Chloe and Elizabeth. A funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, May 19, 2016 at the Colonial Heights Chapel of E. Alvin Small Funeral Homes and Crematory, 2033 Boulevard, with the Reverend Jim Smith officiating. Interment will follow in Sunset Memorial Park, Chester. The family will receive friends Wednesday night, May 18, 2016 from 6:00-8:00 p.m. at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Alzheimer's Association, Greater Richmond Chapter, 4600 Cox Road, Suite 130 Glen Allen, VA 23060.
