Mary Lou Palmore, 87, of Petersburg, died Saturday, October 17, 2015, at Southside Regional Medical Center. Born in San Benito, Texas on September 25, 1928, she was the daughter of the late Russell I. Burch and Marjorie Nelson Burch, and was preceded in death by two beloved sisters, Patricia B. Jarratt and June Melissa Burch, and one dear friend, Alicia Scudder. One day, a handsome gentleman noticed a lovely young lady singing in the choir at church. He asked around, found out she wasn't spoken for, and boldly announced to a friend, "I'm going to marry that girl one day." And marry that girl, he did. Mary Lou married the love of her life, Stanley Vincent Palmore, on June 15, 1948; they have remained happily married for the last 67 years. She is survived by her husband; as well as their son, S. Bryant Palmore and wife Pam; their daughter Karen Palmore Croom and husband Jim; granddaughters Brooke Palmore and partner Andrew Campbell, Laura Elizabeth Simmons and husband Adam, Katie Croom Young and husband Dustin; one grandson, Jonathan Edward Croom; one great granddaughter, Claire Elizabeth Simmons; and one great-grandson, Griffin ("Finn") Sawyer Campbell. She is also survived by her cherished sister, Ann Burch Flanigan and husband Ed; special friends Peggy Hayes, Lucy Moore, Bill and Lib Bandy, Dorothy Coleman, and Miriam Hatchett; brother-in-law Edward Jarratt, sister in-law Alease and husband James Black, and numerous nieces and nephews and great-nieces and nephews. Mary Lou was a proud and active member of Immanuel Baptist Church, where she was a Sunday school teacher and member of WMU. She worked as a Vice President for Central Fidelity Bank for 44 years and was dynamically involved in the National Association of Banking Women. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m., Thursday, October 22, 2015, at Immanuel Baptist Church. Interment will follow in Southlawn Memorial Park, Prince George, Virginia. Additionally, the family will receive friends from 7:00 p.m. - 9:00 p.m. on Wednesday, October 21, 2015, at the Colonial Heights Chapel of the E. Alvin Small Funeral Homes & Crematory, 2033 Boulevard.
