Mary Phillips

Mary J. "Nita" Phillips, 94, of Colonial Heights, VA passed away on February 26, 2016. Born in High Point, NC she was the daughter of the late Mary and Charles Griffith; and was also preceded in death by her husband, Newport Phillips. Mrs. Phillips was a member of Colonial Heights Baptist for 51 years. Nita is survived by her two loving daughters, Sparkie Hamm and husband, Bob and Dona Fontaine and husband, Tim; four grandchildren, Rev. Buddy Hamm and wife, Kerri, Rev. Dr. Phillip Hamm and wife, Christy, Stephen Fontaine and wife, Jennifer and Andrew Fontaine and girlfriend, Autumn Musselwhite; nine great-grandchildren, who she affectionately called her "little angels", Todd, Trey and Ashley Hamm, Abby, Jonathan and Ethan Hamm, Gavin, Hadleigh and Chandler Fontaine. A funeral service will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Tuesday, March 1, 2016 at Colonial Heights Baptist Church, with the Rev. Mike Osborne, officiating. Interment will follow in Southlawn Memorial Park, Prince George, VA. The family will receive friends from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. on Monday, February 29, 2016 at the E. Alvin Small Funeral Homes and Crematory, 2033 Boulevard, Colonial Heights, VA 23834. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to The Heights Baptist Church Building Fund, the Colonial Heights Fire & EMS or to Crater Community Hospice.
