Mary Ann Skeens, 83, of Mechanicsville, formerly of Chester, passed away on Saturday, February 19, 2022. Born September 4, 1938, she was the daughter of the late Gladys Belle Mitchell and James Edmond Morris, Sr., and was also preceded in death by her husband, Harry Burns Skeens, Sr.; and brother, James Edmond Morris, Jr.
Mary attended Chester Christian Church, where she was a dedicated member for over 45 years. Recently she moved to Mechanicsville and started attending Compass Christian Church.
She retired from the Virginia Department of Transportation as an administrative assistant after over 30 years of dedicated service. She enjoyed traveling with her friends, but most of all her greatest joy in life was her cherished family, who she loved spending time with.
She is survived by her sons, Harry Burns Skeens, Jr. and wife, Deborah Lynne, Edmond Lee Skeens and wife, Heather Lynn, Gary Wayne Skeens and wife, Lisa Jean; beloved grandchildren, Carrie Lynne Tyler and husband, Ben, Katie Elizabeth Crumpler and husband, Michael, Audrey Anne Skeens, McKinsey Leigh McCallum and husband, Dr. Terri McCallum, Taylor Drew Skeens and wife, Kristen, Lauren Taylor Skeens, Connor Wayne Skeens; three great-grandchildren, Harrison Michael Tyler, Wesley Grayson Tyler, Mia Charlotte Crumpler; other extended family members and many friends.
A funeral service will be held at 3:00 p.m. on Sunday, March 6, 2022 at the Colonial Heights Chapel of E. Alvin Small Funeral Homes and Crematory, 2033 Boulevard. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service from 2:00 – 3:00 p.m. at the funeral home. Interment will take place at 12:00 p.m. on Monday, March 7, 2022 in Southwest Virginia Veteran’s Cemetery, 5550 Bagging Plant Rd, Dublin, VA 24084.
