Mary Virginia Vaughan “Aunt Mur”, 99, of Colonial Heights, VA, passed away on Tuesday, December 23, 2024 at Bon Secours Southside Medical Center in Petersburg, VA.
She was born on September 21, 1925 in Isle of Wight County, VA. She was the daughter of the late Ruffin and Elsie Gray. She was also preceded in death by her husband, David Lee Vaughan; her brothers, Joe and Thomas Gray; her sisters, Thelma Wooster and Lucille Jones; and her nephew, Wayne Jones.
She worked for McLellan's in downtown Petersburg, VA for 41 years before retiring. Her great niece and nephews friends remember her as "Aunt Mur" and called her car the green machine.
She is survived by her sisters, Josephine Edwards and Betty Jones; her nieces, Beatie Cook and her husband, Roger, Jackie Kelly and her husband, Doug; great-niece and nephews, Britney Nichols, Corey Nichols (Nikkie), Jason Kelly (Kristin), and Justin Kelly; great-great nieces and nephew; Olivia Mack, Hadley and Whitley Kelly, Delayna, Kaylan and Kasen Nichols.
The family would like to give special thanks to her caregivers, Ruth Howk and Kaye Bland of Care Advantage in Colonial Heights.
A graveside service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, January 4, 2025, in Sunset Memorial Park, 2901 W Hundred Road, Chester, VA 23831. Arrangements are by the Colonial Heights Chapel of the E. Alvin Small Funeral Home.
